Bagels

Georgetown Bagelry (formerly in Georgetown, now baking out of Bethesda, Maryland) have supplied excellently-made bagels to Qualia since it’s inception. We offer them with cream cheese or house-made hummus.

Panorama Bakery

Panorama, a dozen-person shop in Virginia, supplies us with croissants, muffins, and the occasional sourdough loaf for toast.

Hot Chocolate

Despite our focus on fresh roasted coffee, we understand that not everyone wants coffee all the time.

In addition to our $2.75 Hot Cocoa, made with cocoa powder, we have also joined the ranks of coffeeshops with obnoxiously highly priced hot chocolate (though, at $4.75, our hot chocolate is not the worst offender out there). Made with fifty-five grams of Belgian dark chocolate per mug, flavored with ginger, anise, (or straight), and topped with the obligatory whipped cream, this gooey beverage is honestly worth the price.

Scones

Our scones are provided by the one-woman Petworth company Paisley Fig, and upon consumption, they will make any other scone unpalatable to you, forever.

Types are random, but we’ve seen ginger, peach-cardamom, lemon chocolate chip, apricot pistachio, and many others.

The works of Paisley Fig can also be found at Columbia Heights bar Room 11, and are available for custom orders as well.

On Dogs

Under DC health code, only service animals may enter the coffeeshop, but we do have a front porch and backyard with a few seats and water bowls for pooches. There’s also a tin of dog treats around here somewhere.

You can get to the backyard by using one of the alleys on Randolph or Shepherd Streets.

Wifi Policy

Wireless internet is available to our customers. The connection is fickle and prone to disconnecting under heavy load, especially on weekends and federal holidays from 10 to 4.

Our Facebook and Twitter feeds (visible on the right hand side of the page) will let you know ahead of time if the internet will be shut off. The last weekend of every month. we shut the WiFi off entirely and encourage our customers to enjoy off-line pursuits.

Laptop use is disallowed on the only table in the shop, and sometimes the entire first floor, depending on traffic.

The newly-renovated Petworth Library is two blocks north, at the intersection of Kansas and Georgia Avenue, and offers free wireless internet.

Please keep in mind that we do not charge as much for drinks as other specialty coffeeshops in DC because we wish to be a citizen of the broader Petworth community, and as such, we rely on steady turnover of seats to keep the lights on. We welcome you for an hour or two’s coffee and writing break, but please keep in mind that our nearly-socialist attitude means we cannot support camping for six hours on a single small coffee.

Plastic Hario dripper, #03

The larger #03-sized dripper can handle a full liter carafe, or just a single mug. The downside is it’s currently only available to us in dishwasher-unfriendly plastic.
